Amazon Skincare: What’s Actually Worth Buying and What We’d Skip

by Megan Kroutil on Oct 07, 2026
Amazon Skincare: What’s Actually Worth Buying and What We’d Skip

Amazon has made buying skincare ridiculously easy. You can find everything from dermatologist staples to viral TikTok products delivered to your door in two days.

But here's the problem: popular doesn't always mean effective.

We went through some of the most commonly seen skincare products on Amazon and picked the ones we'd actually recommend, along with a few we would personally skip.

And before we start: a “NO” doesn't mean a product is dangerous, or that nobody can use it. It simply means we don't think it deserves a must-have spot in your skincare routine when there are simpler or better-supported options available.

Because when it comes to skincare, more isn't always more.

The Amazon Skincare Products We'd Say YES To

Botanic Tree Glycolic Acid 10% Face Wash

We like this one, but don't go crazy with it.

This is a 10% glycolic acid exfoliating cleanser, so we'd use it 1–2 times per week, not every day.

Exfoliating can be helpful, but more isn't necessarily better. The AAD cautions that over-exfoliation can irritate the skin, particularly when you're already using other potentially irritating products such as retinoids.

Our take: YES, but use it intentionally.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer

Another example of why you don't need a $200 moisturizer to have a good skincare routine.

A good moisturizer helps maintain hydration and supports the skin barrier. And if you're using active ingredients like adapalene, retinols, and retinals moisturizer can be especially helpful because acne treatments can cause dryness and irritation.

Our take: YES. Sometimes simple really is better.

AmLactin Crepe Firming Body Cream

This one is for the body, not your face.

If you're dealing with dry, rough or crepey-looking skin, AmLactin is a product we actually like because it combines exfoliation and hydration.

It's a good reminder that skincare doesn't stop at your jawline.

Our take: YES for dry, rough and crepey body skin.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser

Your cleanser doesn't need to be complicated.

This is a basic cleanser that does what a cleanser is supposed to do: remove dirt, oil and buildup without turning your skincare routine into a 12-step science experiment.

The AAD recommends gentle cleansing rather than harsh scrubbing or overly aggressive cleansing, especially for sensitive skin.

Our take: YES. Simple and effective.

Differin Adapalene Gel 0.1%

If acne is your concern, we'd much rather see you spend your money on an ingredient that has actually been studied for acne than pile trendy products on top of each other.

Adapalene is a topical retinoid that helps unclog pores and treat acne, and it's available over the counter.

That doesn't mean you should start using it every night immediately. Retinoids can cause irritation, so starting slowly and using moisturizer can help your skin adjust.

Our take: YES for acne, when used correctly.

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer

This is the kind of skincare we love.

Simple. Gentle. No unnecessary drama.

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid, two ingredients commonly used to help support hydration and the skin barrier. The AAD also recommends looking for ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid when choosing a moisturizer.

If your skin is sensitive or your barrier is unhappy, boring can be a very good thing.

Our take: YES.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50

If you're going to spend money on one skincare product, make it sunscreen.

Daily sun protection is one of the most important things you can do to protect your skin from premature aging and sun damage. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing a sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection, SPF 30 or higher, and water resistance.

We like this one because it's lightweight and easy to incorporate into a daily routine.

Our take: YES. Sunscreen isn't optional if you're serious about taking care of your skin.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70

Another sunscreen that made our YES list.

This one offers SPF 70 and is designed to feel lightweight on the skin. And while a higher SPF doesn't mean you can skip reapplication, having a sunscreen you actually enjoy wearing makes it much more likely that you'll use it consistently.

Our take: YES. Find a sunscreen you like enough to actually wear every day.

The Amazon Skincare Products We'd Skip

1. Collagen Creams

This one needs a little clarification.

Collagen itself is an important protein in your skin. But putting collagen on the surface of your skin isn't the same thing as rebuilding the collagen underneath your skin.

A collagen cream may help moisturize and temporarily make skin look plumper, but we wouldn't want you buying it because you think you're replacing lost collagen.

Our take: NO for the collagen claims. There are better places to spend your money.

2. Snail Mucin

We know. Everyone loves it.

And we're not saying snail mucin is dangerous or that it can't make someone's skin feel hydrated.

We're saying you don't need snail mucin to have hydrated, healthy skin.

There are plenty of established moisturizing ingredients and simple products that can support hydration without adding another trendy step to your routine.

Our take: NO FOR US.

3. Makeup Remover Wipes

Are makeup wipes convenient?

Absolutely.

Do we want them to be your entire cleansing routine every night?

Not really.

We'd rather see you use a gentle cleanser and actually cleanse your skin instead of relying on a wipe every night.

Our take: Fine in a pinch. Not our favorite everyday cleansing method.

4. Facial Cleansing Brushes

Your cleanser doesn't need a power tool.

Especially if you're already using exfoliating acids, retinoids or other active ingredients, adding aggressive mechanical exfoliation can be more irritating than helpful.

The AAD notes that mechanical exfoliation can be too irritating for some skin types, particularly when combined with products that increase skin sensitivity.

Our take: NO. Your hands are enough.

5. St. Ives Apricot Scrub

This isn't about saying all exfoliation is bad.

It's about how you exfoliate.

Aggressive physical scrubbing can irritate the skin, particularly if you're scrubbing too hard or using it too frequently. There are more controlled ways to exfoliate without turning your face into a countertop you need to scrub clean.

Our take: NO. We'd rather choose a more controlled exfoliation method.

So What Should You Actually Buy?

If you're standing on Amazon wondering what your skincare routine actually needs, start with the basics.

A good routine doesn't have to contain 15 products.

Your foundation:

1. Gentle cleanser
Clean your skin without unnecessarily stripping it.

2. Moisturizer
Look for ingredients that support hydration and your skin barrier, such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

3. Sunscreen
Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ should be part of your daily routine.

4. One targeted treatment
If you have a specific concern, choose an ingredient designed to address it rather than adding five trendy products at once.

The Bottom Line

Amazon has some really good skincare.

It also has a lot of products that are incredibly good at marketing themselves.

And those aren't always the same thing.

You don't need every viral product, every trending ingredient or a 10-step routine to have healthy skin.

Sometimes the best skincare is the boring stuff you actually use consistently.

So the next time you're scrolling Amazon at midnight adding random skincare to your cart, pause for a second and ask:

Does my skin actually need this?

Because your skin probably doesn't need another viral product.

It might just need sunscreen, moisturizer and a little consistency.
